A comparative evaluation of antimicrobial efficacy of calcium hydroxide and Seasame oil based intracanal medicaments on enterococcus faecalis: An in vitro study

AIM: The aim is to compare the antimicrobial efficacy of calcium hydroxide, combination sesame oil with chitosan paste and polyethylene glycol intracanal medicaments on Enterococcus Faecalis at 72 hours, 8 days 14 respectively. Materials Methodology: A total single-rooted anterior teeth were selected, root canal preparation was done, divided into three groups contaminated E. faecalis, which further four test each according used. After 21 days, samples randomly (n=18) used are as –Group 1: Negative Control, No medicament Group 2: Calcium Hydroxide pasteGroup 3: Sesame 4: glycolThe specimens then incubated 37 0C in an incubator until evaluation. 6 per group retrieved from analyzed.Values continuous variable (CFU) shown mean ± SD across study groups. inter-group statistical comparisons done using one-way analysis variance (ANOVA) Bonferroni’s correction for multiple comparisons.Results1)All showed reduction bacterial load Faecalis. However, hydroxide better colonies than glycol. 2)Significant also observed when compared after hrs all medicaments. 3)Calcium Chitosan chitosan. Conclusion: In this study, count Faecalis, however complete eradication stubborn organism not achieved still a drawback medication therapy.
